Life with Children
for parents of 5 to 15 year olds
Eight sessions to help parents to improve their communication skills and create a framework of discipline and respect in their families.

What is your child looking for? – understanding why children misbehave and how parents reactions affect their behaviour.

Becoming a responsible parent – responsible parents give responsibility to their children.

Encouragement – looking at ways of enouraging children (and not merely praising them).

Listening – learning active listening skills to understand the world of the child.

Communicating about problems – working out who owns the problem and one’s own feelings respectfully.

Disciplining children – allowing children to choose their actions and face the consequences.

Talking things out together – finding opportunities to talk through family issues together.

Bringing it all together – a final session to review the course and integrate the skills learnt.
This programme has been developed by the Family Caring Trust, and uses a video and a text book.
