School Matters
helping your child in school
‘School matters…’ is a short course primarily for parents at the beginning of their child’s school career, and aims to explore how they can support their children in this new environment.
The five workshops deal with the following topics:
-
Settling in at a new school – how parents can help make starting school an easy experience.
-
Coping in the playground – including looking at concerns over the problem of bullying.
-
Motivating your child – helping children to believe in themselves and develop their own abilities.
-
Helping with learning and homework – the three levels of support that children at school want from their parents.
-
Talking to the teacher – taking seriously that parents aren’t always confident about how they can work with their child’s teacher.
This programme uses material developed by Hartley-Brewer Parenting Projects, and uses a video, and leaflets for each session.
